Peter Ablinger:
REGENSTÜCK 1-6 / 6(3) SCHLAGZEUGER
(1993), 20',
6 or 3perc
Regenstück ("Rainpiece"). A piece with 6 click-tracks. Each player in a separate pulse. It is possible for 6 non percussionists, or for 3 percussionists who each follow one click-track and fill in the additional part by spatial reading.
The piece involves microrhythms and the localization of similar sounds in space. A piece in 6 parts, each like beginning rain.
Instrumentation is free. For example: A piece of tile or brick, plus a piece of wood. The brick (or tile) is softly struck with a mallet, the wood with a brush. Only the 6th player has a third instrument: something low and resonant, perhaps a large drum. The score suggests further possibilities - even a version for 6 pianos.
