Peter Ablinger:

WEISS / WEISSLICH 7
Panpiece

for 2 loudspeakers (1999), 4'

4 minutes of white noise, divided into a high and a low register. The high "half of white" starts on left speaker, the low half right. During 4 minutes both sounds pan to the opposite side. The piece ends in the moment the pan is finished. (No fermata.) At one point in the middle of the piece - exactly at minute 2 - "everything" is undivided everything. (P.A.11/03)

If you want to produce the piece by yourself white noise is split with a filter into two portions. Portion 1 contains all frequencies between 15 and 1660Hz. Portion 2 contains all frequencies between 1660 and 20.000Hz. The pan is regular and linear. Take care that in the middle (at minute 2) the piece is not louder than in the beginning or end. Let it begin and end abruptly (very short fades at begin and end of about 40ms). Project the piece stereo on 2 loudspeakers.
